Shayari is a form of Hindi-Urdu poetry built on metre and rhyme, most often written as a two-line couplet - a structure that separates it from a plain-prose Quotes line or the punchline-driven build of Jokes. Its roots are in Urdu ghazal tradition, which is why words like ishq, tanhai and mohabbat show up often even in shayari written mostly in Hindi.
